The school is presently reviewing its English teaching offer in view of its move to new premises where it intents to teach a bilingual French curriculum.

Due to its location, the school welcomes a large number of bilingual children and a particular importance is given to the teaching of English which is taught from the petite section maternelle.

Children are divided into two groups depending on their level of English (one group consisting of fully bilingual children). The lessons conform to the AEFE guidelines which encourages additional teaching of the local language.

Each year, the “Conseil des maîtres” defines the educational organisation of the half groups for English lessons.

The English timetable is organised as follows:

  • PSM and MSM: 2 sessions of 30 minutes/week (one session for the whole class and one session in half group)

  • GSM: 2 sessions of 50 minutes in half groups and a session of 40 minutes (whole class)

  • CP, CE1 and CE2: 2 sessions of 50 minutes in half groups and a discovery of the world  or history and geography session of 50 minutes (whole class)

  • CM1and CM 2: 3 sessions of 50 minutes in half groups and a history and geography session of 50 minutes (whole class).

In addition, a session for the School’s beginners is offered for 50 minutes from the year GSM.

The French history and geography syllabus of the primary classes includes a weekly hour when the French and English teachers share the class to discuss the history and geography of the United Kingdom with their respective perspectives.

An English library provides a good number of books which the children can borrow every week. A reading scheme has been set up whereby a group of volunteer parents listen to the children read individually in English once a week.

From CE1, children participate in a Shakespeare project in collaboration with the Orange Tree Theatre. Children will therefore study four Shakespeare plays by the end of CM2.

In addition, English clubs are organised by the English teachers after school for those who wish to improve their English.
